Mission & Values

“Our job as parents is to ensure our children develop a close relationship with Jesus. St. Michael Catholic School reinforces what we teach them at home.”

Dedicated to spiritual growth, academic excellence, and social development, the mission of Saint Michael Catholic School is to prepare our students to live the Gospel message in an ever-changing, diverse world.

Values

Why a Catholic school education?
Parents are the primary teachers of their children, especially in the “Ways of Faith.” Therefore, the significance of a Catholic school education must complement parent’s efforts in passing along Catholic values, faith, and way of life to their children. A Catholic school helps children see that their faith and spirituality permeate every part of their day. When children see how God is part of every class and activity in school, they will learn to see that God is involved in every aspect of a Christian’s life.

Catholic faith-based values permeate all we do at St. Michael Catholic School. In addition to daily religion class, time for prayer and reflection occurs throughout the day. Special activities aligned with liturgical seasons are also arranged. Students plan and lead weekly children’s liturgies to unite our school and parish community.

What are the core values associated with Catholic education?
The core values of a Catholic education are the core values of a Catholic life. First and foremost, a student is invited to know and love Jesus Christ. With that comes a knowledge and acceptance of His example and teachings as found in the Holy Scriptures. Students are invited to learn about and honor the Church Jesus founded, including an understanding of the teachings, traditions, and liturgies of the Church. This creates the opportunity to learn and share the faith with others; to live a life of forgiveness, to have compassion for the poor, to recognize the dignity of every individual who is created in the image and likeness of God, and to become actively involved in the work of the Church to make this world a better, more loving, and more just place for all people. All of this is accomplished within the context of a well developed curriculum intended to prepare children for a holy and productive life within our American Community.

How are values invoked in our parish and school community?
Values are only “ideals” until incorporated into a person’s life. The lived example of faith by the people of St. Michael Parish and staff of St. Michael Catholic School is the most important way these values “come to life” and effectively influence the children of St. Michael Catholic School. The Mission Statement of St. Michael Church applies in every aspect to St. Michael Catholic School, which exists as a Parish Ministry. St. Michael Catholic School carries out this Mission in ways that fit the age levels of the students and the focus of the school.
