Are you curious about what students at St. Michael Catholic School have to say about their experiences there? Here 5th and 6th graders share their thoughts about classes, teachers, uniforms, extracurricular activities, and how their education impacts their Catholic faith.
“The best part of attending St. Michael Catholic School is being able to talk about your faith.” – Kathryn I., Grade 6
“What I like best about attending St. Michael’s School is the teachers because they are all so nice and very helpful. They all help you with your work. Most teachers will help you with your homework too if you’re having trouble.” – Alexa R., Grade 5
“The things I like best about attending this school is all the activities that we can do like sports, band, chess, and many more. I also like going to church on every Wednesday.” – Kamille D., Grade 6
“The thing that I like best is that we can talk about God. I think it is very important to pray. If any of your relatives are sick or are in need it is very important to pray for them. They need that kind of support. Then God will help them and be with them.” –Nathan M., Grade 5
“Every year I have been here my faith has grown stronger and stronger.” –Nathaniel, Grade 5
“Attending St. Michael Catholic School…affects [your faith] because you learn more about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. You also learn more about what happened during, before and after Jesus’ time on earth. You can also grow closer to God too. This happens because you go to church every Wednesday and Sunday. You also have religion class and you pray to God before every class starts.” –Anna P., Grade 6
“[The teachers] help me learn more about what Jesus did. If I went to a public school I wouldn’t be able to learn about Jesus. The priest tells what happened back in the times of Jesus. We wouldn’t be able to do that at a public school. We can pray for people but other schools don’t and they can’t even say ‘God’ at their school.” –Nick K., Grade 5
“Going to St. Michael’s School affects my Catholic faith by teaching me how to do things that reflect God. It shows me how to act with love and respect for others and myself.” –Anna Z., Grade 5
“I feel like my Catholic faith has gotten bigger. I also feel that I am growing closer to God every day now that I go to this school.” –Kayla N., Grade 5
“We go to Mass every Wednesday and learn about our Lord God. We also can ask our teacher to say a prayer for a sick relative or friend. Sometimes we have Reconciliation. Every day we say at least four prayers.” –Cole Z., Grade 5
“We have prayer buddies at our school. Our class is assigned to another class in a different grade. Each of us gets one of the students in that class. We sit by them in church, make cards for them and do fun activities with them.” –Christina B., Grade 6
“I play basketball for St. Michael’s. It’s a great way to get to know new friends. It’s also a great way to learn how to work as a team. To come together as a team takes practice. That’s what the coaches are for. The coaches are there to make you better on the court and off the court. Even though the coaches correct you, don’t take it the wrong way. It’s a great way to get away from school and have fun with your friends.” –Thomas V. Grade 6
“I participate in Flag Patrol. I think it is cool to raise up our country’s flag every day.” –Jack G., Grade 6.
“I play volleyball and basketball here. I like them because the coaches are great and you get to be with all your school friends and the team is encouraging and confident.” –Mayme D., Grade 5
“I am in band and I play clarinet. We have private band lessons during the day and the whole band gets together after school. Mr. Felt, our band director, is very nice. He has a good sense of humor but he controls the band so we can learn songs. We have a Christmas concert and a spring concert. I have a lot of fun!” –Christina B., Grade 6
“The attention of a teacher is what I like most about St. Michael’s because if you don’t get something or can’t understand they are right there to make sure you get it.” – Jake M., Grade 5
“I like the teachers best. I like them best because they keep me learning. I like how they will have fun with you at recess but when it’s time to learn they get serious.” – Rachel V., Grade 5
“The best thing I like about St. Michael Catholic School is the teachers. They are super nice but they push you to your limit and what I mean by ‘push to your limit’ is they try to challenge you to the best of your ability.” –Ellie J., Grade 6
“I like St. Michael Catholic School because the teachers and staff are very friendly and teach you the skills that will carry you out in life. They show you discipline and the consequences of your actions.” –Anna Z., Grade 5
“I like wearing uniforms because then you don’t have to figure out what you’re going to wear and no one will bully you about what you’re wearing.” –Jack C., Grade 5
“There are many things I like about this school. One thing I like is the uniforms because you don’t have to worry about what to wear the next day and it makes out-of-uniform special.” – Ciera K., Grade 5
“I like Religion because you get to learn all about God, heaven, and Jesus. We learn and study about the Bible or other important religious people.” –Brooke G., Grade 6
“I like reading. Our class reads 4 books. We just finished Number the Stars. It was about the Holocaust. I like it because when the teacher assigns one chapter you can’t stop.” –Cole Z., Grade 5
“I like all the subjects because they are really fun to learn about. But if I had to pick I would pick science and religion, because in science we’re learning about animals and in religion we’re learning about Advent.” –Melissa M., Grade 5
“My favorite subject is Language Arts. I really like my teachers and enjoy creative writing. We are currently writing different types of poems.” –Allie R., Grade 6
“My favorite subject is probably math. I like that Mr. Whalton teaches it and in a fun way. In math, we do lots of things like learn about fractions, decimals, measurement, and much more. I also like ‘krypto.’ Krypto is a math puzzle in which you try to make 5 numbers equal another number. I love math.” – Ciera K., Grade 5
“My favorite subject is art. I like it because we can express ourselves. We study famous art and artists. Our teacher is Mrs. Olmanson. She tells us to keep focused on our art and have fun along the way.” –Joey C., Grade 5
“My favorite part of the school year is Catholic Schools Week. It’s a time when the whole school comes together and has some fun and celebrates the accomplishments of our school. We have things like crazy hair day, crazy sock day, crazy hat day, etc. We also have a kick-off for all the school teams. There are competitions for the teachers. It’s a fun week.” – Thomas V., Grade 6
“The talent show is my favorite day of the year. You get to see people doing cool tricks.” –Nick K., Grade 5
“My favorite part of this school year is how we get to learn harder stuff in each class and if I didn’t understand something last year I’ll understand it better this year.” –Melissa M., Grade 5
